This is a one-day conference organised by the Royal Irish Academy's Physical, Chemical and Mathematical Sciences committee, and the Irish Committee for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in Mathematics (ICEDIM), that will be held on the main campus of University of Galway and hosted by the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences.

The Women in Maths Day Ireland had become an annual conference since its inauguration in 2010, and was most recently hosted by Department of Mathematics and Statistics and the Mathematics Application Consortium for Science and Industry in 2024. The conference is a multi-faceted event that includes plenary talks, academic and industrial research talks, poster sessions, and thematic events. Its aim is to advance gender equality in the mathematical sciences in Ireland and to provide a forum to encourage, support, and inspire women at all stages of their education and careers.

More details will be posted here in the coming days and weeks. For more information, contact the local organisers: Nina Snigireva and Niall Madden.

We gratefully acknowledge financial support of the Royal Irish Academy, The Irish Mathematical Society, and The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences of University of Galway, and University of Limerick.

Our event is registered under the May 12 initiative, check it out here!

Organisers

The Women in the Mathematical Sciences Day 2025 is organised jointly by the Royal Irish Academy’s Physical, Chemical and Mathematical Sciences committee, and the Irish Committee for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in Mathematics (ICEDIM).

  • The Royal Irish Academy is Ireland’s leading body of experts in the sciences and humanities. The Physical, Chemical and Mathematical Sciences committee is one of ten Royal Irish Academy multidisciplinary committees across the humanities and the sciences that are responsible for leading a dynamic public engagement programme including conferences, public lectures, expert statements and awards.
  • The Irish Mathematical Society aims to further Mathematics and Mathematical research in Ireland. Its membership is international, but it mainly represents mathematicians in Universities and other third level institutes in Ireland. The Irish Committee for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Mathematics (ICEDIM) was formed as a sub-committee of the Irish Mathematical Society (IMS) in September 2022. ICEDIM's main aim is to advise and report to the IMS Committee on all EDI matters concerning mathematics, including the theme of gender and science and the promotion of women in the field of mathematics. ICEDIM works towards: encouraging women and under-represented groups to study mathematics, supporting women and under-represented groups in their careers, and giving prominence and visibility to women mathematicians and mathematicians from under-represented groups.

Local organisers: Nina Snigireva and Niall Madden.
